John Howard Society Lasagna Lunch

On April 28, workplaces will come together to commemorate the National Day of Mourning, a day dedicated to honoring workers who have lost their lives, have been injured, or suffered an illness due to their work.

Dave Warda and Mayor Jeff Leal joined Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) President Laura Walton today at Peterborough and District Labour Council's annual Day of Mourning ceremony outside Peterborough City Hall.

This year, Canada’s unions are marking the Day of Mourning by calling on decision-makers to take immediate and concrete action to make work safe. An alarming number of workers are still getting injured, falling ill, or dying from unsafe work. Workers need proper protection and adequate information to keep them safe, while decision-makers have a responsibility to strongly enforce the Westray law to ensure that employers aren’t cutting corners at the expense of workers’ health and safety.

On April 11th, UWP celebrated our succcessful 2023-24 Community Campaign and at an evening event, honoured local individuals and companies for their acheivement in workplace campaigns and community fundraising.

The Spirit of the Community Award honours an individual, group or organization that personifies exceptional community spirit, team spirit and spirit of generosity through their significant overall partnership with United Way, deepening our community building partnerships.

Cogeco is a huge partner in helping to amplify United Way messaging around the needs that exist locally and in sharing information about community programs. Cogeco stepped up in 2023 to provide a much needed sponsorship to fill the need for our Backpacks for Success Program and signed on as a presenting sponsor of the inaugural United on the Highway fundraising event!

Congratulations Cogeco for achieving our 2023 Spirit of the Community Award!
