Leave a Legacy
Where there is a will, there is a way… Making a bequest in your will is one of the easiest ways you can establish your legacy. You can leave a fixed amount of money, a particular asset or a portion of your estate.
How do I name United Way Peterborough & District in my will?
When naming a charity such as United Way in your will as a beneficiary, your estate will benefit from the charitable tax receipt offsetting taxes due. A bequest is the most common type of planned gift. It is up to you to decide how your gift will be used, however a general gift allows United Way to direct the monies received to the areas of greatest need.
If you would like to discuss your bequest, please contact our office to ensure your intentions are honoured: 705.742.8839.
United Way’s Endowment Fund provides the ideal vehicle for you to give back to your community and ensures your generosity will continue long after your lifetime. A planned gift to United Way is a thoughtful commitment to the future. Please contact our office for more information: 705.742.8839.

Gifts of Securities
By donating publicly traded shares to United Way Peterborough & District, you will not pay the capital gains tax normally associated with such a sale. This means you receive a tax receipt for the full value of the shares but are NOT taxed on any gain. Donors of securities therefore do not need to take any capital gain into income. Your charitable receipt will reflect the closing price of the shares on the date they are received in United Way’s brokerage account.
Note: Actual shares must be transferred to United Way. If shares are sold and then the proceeds donated to United Way, the enhanced tax benefits do not apply.
