Development Officer

Position Summary:

The Development Officer is part of a highly collaborative team that supports United Way to fulfill its mission by raising funds through building and maintaining strong donor and community relationships. Reporting to both the Director of Finance and Admin & the Director of Community Impact, the Development Officer will be responsible for a portfolio of workplaces, individuals and events that support the work of United Way in its efforts to raise funds for the community.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Relationship Management & Revenue Generation

  • Using best practices in donor centric fundraising practices, develop and deliver results-driven revenue generation activities within assigned portfolio of individuals and businesses to increase annual revenue, attract and retain donors and volunteers and promote year-round communication and engagement.
  • Implement strategies for a portfolio of workplace campaigns to meet and beat fundraising goals, with focus on key performance indicators and other measures.
  • Build cohesive relationships with workplace representatives and campaign cabinet volunteers to promote participation with United Way.
  • Ensure all stewardship and recognition activities are in place and implemented for all donors within their portfolio.
  • Demonstrate exemplary stewardship by communicating about investments, program information, and progress toward our community goals to company representatives, donors and volunteers.
  • Apprise the Directors of key developments which have positive or negative implications to corporate accounts and relationships.
  • Identify new corporate prospects and following up through cultivation and solicitation.
  • Work in collaboration with the Directors and campaign leaders to develop workplace goals and benchmarks for new revenue and engagement.
  • Recruit, support and manage volunteers to assist in United Way activities.
  • Strategically communicate the value of the United Way with key decision makers within assigned portfolio.
  • Utilize the database to manage relationships, ensuring the data is up to date, extract reports as needed.
  • Stay apprised of trends or issues in relevant industries that affect business climate or culture, and economic environment which could impact fund development.
  • Provides communications support to the organization, implementing the organization’s communication plan as required by the Directors.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate workplace donor cultivation and stewardship events such as leadership giving presentations, seeing is believing tours, activities and speakers to engage workplace donors year-round.
  • Lead the planning and execution of assigned UWP events/initiatives such as but not limited to: Campaign Launch, Campaign Celebration, Day of Caring, Tampon Tuesday.
  • Works with the Directors to provide reports and analysis of workplace accounts & donors by using designated reporting system and by customizing reports at request of CEO and Directors.
  • Provide campaign progress and accounts report as requested.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in fundraising, a social science or related business discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of demonstrated success in:
    • fundraising,
    • sales and or
    • customer relationship building.
  • Event planning and marketing experience is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a non profit is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Able to work with a team of staff and volunteers with a high level of enthusiasm.
  • Accurate, organized, willingness for perpetual learning
  • Innovative and creative problem solver
  • Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, professionally and effectively with a wide range of companies and individuals
  • Demonstrated skills in conducting presentations and public speaking.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
  • Experience in managing volunteers is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Office 365 applications,
  • Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, and/ or Donor Perfect is considered an asset.

Working Conditions / Physical Environment:

  • Work performed in an office environment based in downtown Peterborough.
  • Access to personal transportation is essential, frequent offsite meetings / events.
  • Non-traditional hours are sometimes required due to deadlines or event/meeting schedules.

Starting Salary: $51,858
