Carlotta James

Carlotta James is a dynamic force at the intersection of environmental activism, community building, and long-distance running. Armed with an Honours B.A. in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Toronto, her journey began in the realm of Internet security at Psiphon. There, she developed vital circumvention tools for audiences in censorship-prone regions like China and Cuba.

Fueled by an insatiable curiosity for global affairs, Carlotta embarked on a six-year odyssey through China, South Africa, England, Australia, and Mexico, where she immersed herself in diverse cultures and causes. Now rooted in Peterborough with her family, her commitment to environmental sustainability shines through her work with Peterborough Pollinators.

As the co-founder of Three Sisters Natural Landscapes, Carlotta spearheads initiatives to cultivate pollinator-friendly gardens throughout Peterborough and the Kawartha's. Her dedication extends to the Monarch Ultra, an international relay run, documentary, and conservation project she co-founded. In 2019, Carlotta and her team of ultra runners traced the monarch migration from Peterborough to central Mexico, igniting a movement that continues to galvanize communities across North America.

Carlotta's love for running transcends mere recreation; it's a conduit for connection with nature and a catalyst for change. Alongside her family and friends, she traverses forest trails, uncovering the profound beauty of the natural world.

Her leadership extends to her role as the co- founder of the Monarch Ultra, a groundbreaking endeavor that traverses three countries—Canada, the US, and Mexico—engaging with schools, environmental groups, and enthusiasts to raise awareness of monarch butterflies and the urgent need for conservation.

Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, Carlotta's unwavering determination and meticulous planning ensured the Monarch Ultra Marathon pressed on, adapting its route to continue its vital mission.

In Carlotta James, we find not only a visionary entrepreneur and environmentalist but also a beacon of inspiration, driving positive change one step at a time.
