Supporting our communities

Community binds us together. Community is also at the heart of everything we do. Amidst these times of rapidly evolving news and uncertainty your United Way remains focused on supporting those who need it the most.

We know the COVID-19 virus is top of mind for members in our community. Especially for those most vulnerable, and for those who find themselves on reduced or restricted working hours. We also anticipate this pandemic to increase not only the usage of poverty-based programs and we are also preparing for increased demand in family and mental health services and supports.

At United Way Peterborough & District, the health and safety of our communities is our priority. We have been closely monitoring developments related to COVID-19 and will be following guidelines from Ontario Health Services. Right now we are working closely with The City of Peterborough to provide consistent practices, messaging, and responses on the pandemic to the social services sector.

We want to share the actions we’re taking to help protect our team, their families, and the 16 supported agencies serving the needs of 60,000 people in our community – and what you can do to help.

Office Closure

The team has fully deployed a remote workforce, and, with a few adjustments, our work is business as usual. Donations remain hard at work, supporting those in the community who find themselves struggling.

Be assured, your United Way is working tirelessly, to ensure no one is left without the support they need.

Events

United Way public events scheduled for March and April have been cancelled, postponed, or will be accommodated online. Events scheduled for May or later will be determined in the coming weeks.

Our Peterborough community has proven countless times that we are strongest during our most difficult times. Pulling together and supporting one another is what we do. Please take care of yourself. And thank you for taking care of one another!

❤️ Today is the day - #GivingTuesday 2025!

💡Did you know that thanks to a generous anonymous donor, all new donations will be matched 100%, and any donor who increases their gift by 10% or more will have that increase matched as well.

✨ That means not only will your gift strengthen our community’s social safety net by championing our research efforts and sustaining the work of our 20 partner agencies, but your impact can be DOUBLED‼️

It’s with a profound sadness that United Way Peterborough and District, staff, Board of Directors, and Campaign Cabinet remember and celebrate the life and legacy of Ann Farquharson.

Ann was a dedicated member of our Campaign Cabinet - a community builder with admirable determination. Her legacy spans decades of dedicated civic leadership, and her impact is woven into every corner of our community. We will miss Ann’s voice in our community, and around our tables.

To her family, many friends, and colleagues: we offer our deepest condolences. To our United Way community: we pledge to honour her memory by continuing the work that she so believed in.

Thank you, Ann.
