Save the Date! We are excited to announce that Day of Caring 2025 is taking place on Friday, June 20! 🛠️💪

This annual event connects local volunteers with nonprofit organizations across Peterborough & County to complete meaningful, hands-on project. These initiatives not only foster a sense of community and collaboration, but also significantly enhance the capacity of these nonprofit groups to fulfill their missions and better our community, all in a single day!

On Red Dress Day, we honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people. Started by Métis artist and activist Jaime Black-Morsette in 2010 as the REDress Project, the red dress has become a powerful symbol for raising awareness. Indigenous women and girls make up less than 5% of the Canadian population but represent approximately 24% of all homicide victims.

In United Way Peterborough & District’s latest Point-in-Time homelessness count, we found that there are about twice as many white men than white women experiencing homelessness in Peterborough, but roughly an equal number of Indigenous men and Indigenous women, illustrating the systemic marginalization of Indigenous women in our community.

The final report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls was released in 2019 and includes 231 Calls for Justice directed at not only governments and institutions, but all Canadians. We encourage you to read it.

We did it, Peterborough! 🎉 Last night, we celebrated exceeding our campaign goal with a total of $1,506,198 raised — all thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. 💥❤️ Huge thanks to Electric City Catering for the delicious dinner and SugaShak 2.0 for the beautifully hand-decorated cupcakes that made the night even sweeter!
