Senior Connector Project – Lead (9-month contract)

Background

The Age-friendly Peterborough (AFP) Vision is that Peterborough is a thriving region that is inclusive, respectful, and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

AFP is a collaborative of passionate individuals who contribute their time, expertise, resources, and provide an age-friendly lens through a diverse perspective. The network includes representatives from not-for-profit agencies, businesses that provide senior services, health care professionals, academia and research, and older adult volunteers. Our aim is to improve the quality of life of seniors in the greater Peterborough area: City of Peterborough, Peterborough County including the 8 Townships, and Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations.

AFP Community Action Plan 2023 was recently approved by the City of Peterborough Council and Peterborough County Council. The AFP Working Groups strategize on projects that support their respective priority areas, goals, and strategies. The Senior Connector Project has elements in all four priority areas: Basic Needs, Staying Mobile, Building Relationships, and Learning and Contributing. The Senior Connector Project is funded by the United Way Peterborough & District.

Main Purpose

The objective of the Senior Connector Project Lead is to address the current and future housing and health service needs of the local aging population through improved access to information and system navigation.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Create the Peterborough Senior Service Directory and Information Guide.
    • Utilize the online Peterborough Senior Service Directory to create a print resource guide.
    • Collaborate with community stakeholders to gather information related to senior housing options and healthy aging.
  2. Develop the Senior Connector Program.
    • Recruit volunteer Senior Connectors.
    • Design and implement training for the Senior Connectors.
    • Coordinate Senior Connector kiosk locations and monitor the program.
  3. Contribute to the communication campaign to inform the older adult community about the availability of the Peterborough Senior Service Directory and Information Guide.
    • Design, deliver and schedule community workshops.
  4. Contribute content for social media posts.
  5. Review the AFP website and provide recommendations for changes.
  6. Represent AFP at community events, such as fairs and farmers markets to provide an in-person connection to programs and services available.

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Education and experience in the areas of health and housing, preferably with specialized knowledge of seniors.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills related to presenting and public relations are essential.
  • Must have excellent project management, volunteer coordination, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work at a high level of independence using diplomacy and sound judgement.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software applications.
  • Must have a respect for the diversity of opinions, perspectives, and ideas; and be comfortable with changing priorities and demands.
  • Must have current drivers license and access to reliable transportation to fulfil the responsibilities of the position.
  • This position may involve working irregular hours including some evenings and weekends.

  4. Prepare social media posts.
    • Provide guidance to Fleming students who will develop content for the posts.
  5. Review the AFP website and provide recommendations for changes.
    • Develop and post videos on the website.
  6. Represent AFP at community events, such as fairs and farmers markets to provide an in-person connection to programs and services available.

Education/Experience/Skills

  • Education and experience in the areas of marketing and communications, preferably with specialized knowledge of seniors.
