2017 Campaign Chair Announcement

Jim Russell, CEO United Way Peterborough & District announced today at the United Way office on Stewart Street that local social media maverick and entrepreneur, Neil Morton would Chair the 2017 Community Campaign.

Russell made the announcement saying, “Neil’s leadership style, social media expertise, deep roots in the community, and entrepreneurial spirit are widely known and highly valued.”

Neil is the son of David Morton former head of Quaker in Peterborough. Having moved to Peterborough at a young age, Neil developed a profound love for the community. He attended Adam Scott and graduated from Trent with an honours degree in history and English.

He moved to Toronto to study journalism at Ryerson University and for 18 years worked as Magazine/Digital editor for multiple publishing companies before returning to Peterborough with his family, as part of a lifestyle choice.

Mr. Morton is Co-Founder of the digital media company PTBOCanada.com and Co-Founder of the boutique social advertising agency StudioPTBO.com. He sits on the board of the Peterborough Chamber, is an expert-in-residence on social media/branding at the Innovation Cluster, and is a Founding Member of the grassroots entrepreneurial organization Startup Peterborough (local chapter of Startup Canada). Morton does regular public speaking on branding, social media, marketing and positivity.  Morton resides in Peterborough with his wife, Christi, and teenage daughters, Avery & Chloe. He loves Peterborough & plaid.

“The Campaign will launch this year on Sept 19th, and I am in the midst of putting the final touches on this year’s Campaign Cabinet. In fact I am happy to announce this morning that Robert Gauvreau has agreed to be vice chair for the campaign. I will be looking to round out the team with eager, Peterborough loving champions!”

For 1 in 4 Canadians who menstruate, period products aren't always in the budget. You can help address period poverty in our community by contributing to our Period Promise campaign.

This year, we're sharing our running total by item type on our website [link in bio], so you can see what we have, and what we still need, as we aim to offer a greater diversity of product to residents experiencing period poverty. - We're also accepting monetary donations, which will allow us to purchase items in bulk.

Product donations will be accepted at the United Way office (277 Stewart Street), Monday-Friday, 9AM-5PM until Friday March 13. [Please note: We are closed February 16 for Family Day, and February 26 for Peterborough Performs and will not be present to accept drop offs.]

If you’d like to get more involved with our 2026 Period Promise campaign, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team! We’d be happy to help you setup a collection at your workplace, share educational resources, or chat about any other ideas you may have.
