United Way Peterborough & District Reflects on a Year of Impact at Annual General Meeting

United Way Peterborough & District (UWP) held its Annual General Meeting on August 20, 2025, marking another year of meaningful community impact and celebrating a legacy of service that began in 1941.

CEO Jim Russell addressed attendees with a message of gratitude and purpose. “Looking back over the past year, we are struck by the pulse of the United Way Peterborough and District,” said Russell. “It is hard to imagine a higher calling for a non-profit organization than the goal of bettering the community. We do that through research that identifies needs, investments in community partners that serve those needs, and timely fundraising and storytelling to help everyone in the community link capacity to action.”

Over the past year, United Way Peterborough & District invested in:

  • 20 local agencies through its Community Campaign donations,
  • 11 grassroots groups through the Neighbourhood Fund, and
  • 4 additional organizations through targeted funding initiatives.

As the Community Entity for the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home program, UWP administered funding to 17 projects across the City and County of Peterborough, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness or living rough with housing and essential services.

Community initiatives were made possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and volunteers. Highlights include:

  • 450+ backpacks filled and distributed to local youth,
  • 2,200 coats provided to those in need, and
  • 10,304 menstrual hygiene products distributed in partnership with numerous community groups.

“These numbers represent more than just statistics—they reflect the compassion and commitment of our community,” said Jim Russell. “We are proud to be a conduit for that generosity.”
