United Way Announces 3 Year 5 Million Dollar Goal

United Way Announces 3 Year 5 Million Dollar Goal

In a departure from past practice, the United Way of Peterborough and District announced an ambitious but essential goal of $5,000,00.00 by 2023 on September 29, 2020.

The Campaign is led this year by long time Cabinet and Board member Marcus Harvey. “Our commitment to our Partners is for a 5-year cycle and it just made sense that we communicated a goal that underscored that commitment,” said Harvey. Coming off the success of the 2019 campaign which hit 93% of that year’s goal, Harvey noted, “the Board is committed to meet the increasing needs of our community. And I know together with this community, we will ensure the ongoing support that is needed for our Partner agencies.”

In the face of COVID-19 the United Way has had to reimagine the approach to its annual workplace campaigns. Many workplaces are still working remotely if at all, and the campaign had to tack to meet the challenges of these unprecedented times. A virtual tool kit has been developed along with videos from current donors, workplaces, and partner agencies. All will be shown throughout the coming months in a robust social media campaign.

An impassioned Jim Russell CEO of United Way revealed #unignorable theme attached to the campaign. Amid lawn signs Russell introduced the iconography that was developed for the United Way, to highlight the social issues that are critical for communities. Homelessness, partner violence, poverty, mental health, unemployment, being among them.

“We understand that people are uncertain, are bracing because of the exigencies of COVID-19. What is needed is to move from bracing to embracing the #unignorable. Our work on the campaign trail this year is to ensure people understand the ongoing need and challenges that these #unignorable social issue present. COVID-19 offers an opportunity to deepen in our sense of community, and we are here to once again thank the community for rising to the challenge of making sure that a recovery from COVID-19 is a recovery for all” says Jim Russell, CEO of United Way Peterborough and District.

Last week, nearly 60 community members came together at our Solutions Summit to share ideas, build connections, and help shape the future of Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion (READI) work across Peterborough City & County.

The conversations were thoughtful, honest, and inspiring, and we know there are still more voices to hear.

We’re now inviting the broader community to help inform how up to $300,000 through our new Priority Issues Fund will be invested over the next 18 months.
Whether you attended the Summit or not, we want your insight.

📝 Complete the Priority Issues Fund Survey before Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. and help shape this work moving forward.
