Leading Forward will give us the opportunity to come together to (re) connect, to recognize our collective strength and resilience, and to celebrate our network’s leadership and innovation with our United Way colleagues from across Canada.

Our United Way Peterborough & District team is overwhelmed with gratitude for our community after a wonderful day spent together learning about income as a social determinant of health, and brainstorming ways to push the local anti-poverty movement forward.

Staff members Elisha Rubacha (Community Impact Officer) and Betsy Farrar (Director of Community Impact) were inspired to develop the Community Symposium on Healthy Incomes as a means of furthering the discussion around poverty that was started earlier this year with the release of our report "The Gap: Income (In)Adequacy Report 2024."

United Way Peterborough & District has been urged by the community to take a lead in anti-poverty work. This full day event was just the beginning of our efforts to grow an anti-poverty strategy as a community. Conversations will continue over the summer, through focus groups, interviews, and surveys, and a report will be released later this year.

We extend our thanks to the nearly 100 participants who attended yesterday's Symposium!

As Dr. Piggott said during his keynote, "Poverty is solvable. We can imagine a future without poverty."

We wish our Director of Philanthropy, Anne Ondercin the best, as she embarks on her next exciting journey in the world of philanthropy!

Over the past four years, Anne has led our organization through some of the most trying times in United Way Peterborough & District’s 82-year history.

Starting just weeks before the first COVID shutdown, Anne’s leadership was integral to guiding our philanthropic efforts through the fear and uncertainty we were all experiencing globally, keeping a fierce focus donor engagement.

Anne’s leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our cause have left a legacy marked by the stronger volunteer and staff teams she has mentored and coached during her time at United Way.

The Campaign Cabinet that she has grown and nurtured has built our organizational capacity, helping to realize an 8% increase to the 2024 Community Campaign for United Way, this represents the largest Campaign growth in years, illustrating that “Together We Can.”

We are incredibly proud of the engagement and initiatives that Anne has worked tirelessly to integrate, in particular her efforts to bring the national movement Women United, that builds on the philanthropy of women and allies, lifting up, supporting and celebrating women, to our community.

Thank you, Anne, for your leadership and unwavering commitment to our community and United Way Peterborough & District.

You will be missed and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

This #ThankYouTuesday we want to celebrate the incredible leaders at TD Canada Trust who sweated it out in the heat yesterday to create a welcoming space by beautifying the gardens at our local John Howard Society for their employee appreciation event. The 18 volunteers came together from across the Peterborough/Bellville region to clear out the overgrown spaces, weed and mulch so that visitors and those using JHS services could enjoy the annual gardens! The TD Leadership Group, as a Partner in Caring, covered all of the costs associated with the project and, invested in helping to build a stronger, healthier and more inclusive community for us all. Thank you TD!
