Development Officer
INTERVIEWS IN PROGRESS FOR POSITION
Position Summary:

The Development Officer plays a key role in assisting United Way to fulfill its mission by raising funds through building and maintaining strong donor and community relationships. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Development Officer will inspire a portfolio of workplaces and individuals to support the work of United Way and lead event planning activities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Relationship Management & Revenue Generation (50%)
- Develop and implement strategies for a portfolio of workplace campaigns to meet and beat fundraising goals, with focus on key performance indicators and other measures.
- Build cohesive relationships with workplace representatives and implement best practices with workplace and campaign cabinet volunteers to promote participation in United Way.
- Ensure all stewardship and recognition activities are in place and implemented for all donors within their portfolio.
- Demonstrate exemplary stewardship by providing necessary and timely feedback on investments, program information, and progress toward our community goals to company representatives, donors and volunteers.
- Apprise Director of key developments which have positive or negative implications to corporate accounts and relationships.
- Assist in identifying new corporate prospects and following up through cultivation and solicitation.
- Work in collaboration with Director and campaign leaders to develop workplace goals and benchmarks for new revenue and engagement.
- Assist Director to recruit, support and manage volunteers to assist in solicitation and stewardship calls with Company Executives and other key stakeholders.
- Strategically position United Way with key stakeholders and decision makers by initiating face to face meetings with executives and key influencers within assigned portfolio.
- Embrace the United Way database to manage relationships. Capture, enter and maintain relevant stakeholder information in database and extract required information.
- Stay apprised of trends or issues in relevant industries that affect business climate or culture, and economic environment which could impact fund development.
Project Management of Events and Initiatives (30%)
- Plan, implement, and evaluate workplace donor cultivation and stewardship events such as leadership giving presentations, seeing is believing tours, activities and speakers to engage workplace donors year-round.
- Lead the planning and execution of assigned UWP events/initiatives such as Campaign Launch, Campaign Celebration, Day of Caring, Tampon Tuesday.
Administrative and Data (20%)
- Works with the Director to provide reports and analysis of workplace accounts & donors by using designated reporting system and by customizing reports at request of CEO and Director.
- Provide a weekly campaign progress and accounts report during campaign.
- Assists with mailings supporting the Campaign Cabinet activities.
Education & Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in fundraising, a social science or related business discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of demonstrated success in:
- relationship management in a fundraising environment or
- applied customer-centric relationship in a for profit environment or
- project/event management
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Able to work with a team of staff and volunteers with a high level of enthusiasm.
- Accurate, organized, willingness for perpetual learning
- Innovative and creative problem solver
- Demonstrated ability to interact comfortably, tactfully, professionally and effectively with a wide range of companies and individuals
- Demonstrated skills in conducting presentations and public speaking.
- Excellent planning and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities.
- Experience in managing volunteers is an asset.
- Proficiency with Office 365 applications (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel), Canva, Constant Contact, Donor Perfect.
Working Conditions / Physical Environment:
- Physically based in Peterborough, Ontario
- Access to personal transportation is essential.
- Non-traditional hours are sometimes required due to deadlines or event/meeting schedules.

Starting Salary: $50,816 (Salary Range: $50,816 - $56,092)
