3rd Annual Yoga Festival Celebrates Inclusion and Community

PETERBOROUGH, ON – Excitement is building as the 3rd Annual Peterborough Yoga Festival approaches. The Festival is set for Saturday, June 17th at Del Crary Park, alongside Little Lake in downtown Peterborough.  The Festival features a full line up of unique classes.  Attendees can explore and enjoy the day as they feel comfortable. The festivities begin at 7.am. with a communal sun salutation. Yoga and meditation classes, workshops, a kid’s tent, wellness garden, and expanded yogi market will also be included in the daylong celebration.

“The Peterborough Yoga Festival is a community event for the community.” Says festival co-organizer Tiffany Nicholson-Smith. “It really breaths everything that yoga is in a lived way; community, inclusion, love, connection, and mostly presence and awareness… and all proceeds go back to the community through United Way, earmarked for programs that align with the yoga lifestyle.”

“We are so grateful to the organizers for their continued hard work in ensuring another successful Yoga Festival this year. We are so proud of our partnership” Gushes United Way’s Aimee O’Reilly, committee liaison.

“An inclusive, strong, and healthy Peterborough is one of United Way’s goals.” States 2017 UWP Campaign Chair Neil Morton. “It seems like a great fit to partner together on this event. My only problem is I can’t seem to find anywhere that sells plaid yoga wear!”

Nicholson-Smith stresses the importance of the inclusiveness of the event. “There is absolutely no previous yoga experience required. This is a day for everyone and all are welcome to come and discover Yoga and Meditation in a really down-to-earth, back-to-nature, non-intimidating environment,” she states.

The event doubled in size from the first year to second, with another large increase expected this year. Tickets can be purchased for $20 in advance or at the door for $25 and kids under 16 are free. Last week, nearly 60 community members came together at our Solutions Summit to share ideas, build connections, and help shape the future of Reconciliation, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion (READI) work across Peterborough City & County.

The conversations were thoughtful, honest, and inspiring, and we know there are still more voices to hear.

We’re now inviting the broader community to help inform how up to $300,000 through our new Priority Issues Fund will be invested over the next 18 months.
Whether you attended the Summit or not, we want your insight.

📝 Complete the Priority Issues Fund Survey before Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. and help shape this work moving forward.
