November 1 – 30, 2026

Peterborough’s 2nd Annual United Way Ultimate Burger Battle

What is the United Way Ultimate Burger Battle?

The Ultimate Burger Battle is our month-long celebration of local flavours, community spirit, and giving. Participating restaurants will create signature ultimate burgers, and a portion of each sale helps support United Way’s initiatives across Peterborough and District.

The funds raised will go directly to supporting the 20+ non-profit agencies that the United Way Peterborough and District funds, addressing social issues like food insecurity, poverty alleviation and literacy. These dollars will contribute to the United Way’s goal of “building community and changing lives” through their 2026-27 Community Campaign.

We would like to give a special thank you to kawarthaNOW for providing in-kind media coverage to help raise awareness about the United Way Ultimate Burger Battle!

How It Works:

  1. Restaurants get involved
Local restaurants sign up to create a unique “Ultimate Burger” – a burger special just for the campaign.
  2. You and our Burger Ambassadors taste, vote & share
Visit participating restaurants over the campaign period, order their burger, snap a photo, and share it with #UltimateBurgerBattle #UWPUBB. Don’t forget to vote online for your favourite!
  3. Funds flow to impact
For each burger sold, $2 is donated back to support United Way’s programs.
Restaurants also compete for awards: People’s Choice, Most Burgers Sold, and, of course, the Ultimate Burger of the Year!

Meet The Burger Ambassadors

Adam Hopkins

Senior Vice-President, Academic, First Nations Technical Institute

Proud dad, enthusiastic community volunteer, and self-appointed connoisseur of questionable dietary decisions, Adam Hopkins has spent much of his life finding ways to bring people together. Now, he’s finally landed the role he was born to play: eating burgers for a good cause.

A firm believer that strong communities are built through connection, good food, and occasionally melted cheese, Adam is approaching the Ultimate Burger Battle with the seriousness it deserves. Armed with an appetite, an open mind, and absolutely no formal culinary qualifications, he’s ready to put Peterborough’s finest burgers to the test.

Dani Guppy

Afternoon Drive Host on Pete 99.7, Durham Radio Inc.

Born and raised in Peterborough, left for a few years to explore some things shall we say?? 😊
I ended up Graduating from the Radio Broadcast Program at Loyalist in 2004 and pretty much have been doing Radio ever since. Bounced back and forth from Belleville and Peterborough Radio for a few years and back in Peterborough full time since 2018. I’m a Mom of 1 and big lover of other people’s pets! 😊
This Community we have here in Peterborough is small but we are mighty when we all come together.
I look forward to stuffing my face with Burgers for the next month all in support of the United Way.
Let’s go guys!! May the Best Burger win!!

Phillip Joliceur

Owner, Be Your Brand & Photobooth Fun

Phillip Jolicoeur, known as PJ the Marketing Guy, is a proud Peterborough resident, entrepreneur, community advocate, and philanthropist. As the owner of Be Your Brand, Phillip helps businesses and organizations grow through creative marketing, storytelling, and meaningful community connections.

With a passion for giving back, Phillip has served on numerous community boards, volunteered with local organizations, and founded Harmony for Healing, an annual concert supporting mental health and suicide prevention.

Recognized as Peterborough’s 2024 Business Citizen of the Year and a CMHA Champion of Mental Health, Phillip believes that strong communities are built through relationships, collaboration, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed.

Rose Terry

Community Futures Peterborough & Nectar Co.

Entrepreneur, brand builder, mom of two, and firm believer that burgers taste even better when they give back! Rose is the Founder of the viral, award-winning brand, Nectar Co. and the Manager of the Business Advisory Centre and Corporate Communications at Community Futures Peterborough. When she’s not helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses or teaching the next generation, she’s cheering on local businesses and finding ways to make a difference. This time, she’s bringing the beef as a United Way Ultimate Burger Battle Ambassador – because making a difference is great, but doing it with a side of fries is even better!

Tracey Germa

Retired

Teddy

Lacrosse Bruiser, Peterborough Century 21 Lakers

When he isn’t hyping up the crowd at the Peterborough Memorial Centre or recovering from legally complex, highly publicized “incidents” with Roger the Petes’ mascot, Teddy is stepping up to the plate (and the grill) as the official Burger Ambassador for the United Way Ultimate Burger Battle.

As a bear, Teddy’s qualifications for this role are entirely peer-reviewed: he possesses a hibernation-level appetite, a zero-tolerance policy for dry buns, and an unshakeable belief that cheese belongs on everything. Having spent years dodging loose balls on the floor, Teddy brings elite footwork and lightning-fast reflexes to any table featuring loaded patties, crispy bacon, and secret sauces.

Now that is legal troubles are behind him, Teddy has redirected all that competitive energy toward a much more noble cause: finding Peterborough’s ultimate burger. Whether he’s judging by structural integrity, cheese pull, or sheer mouth-watering glory, Teddy is ready to champion local food while supporting a fantastic community initiative.

You’re not seeing double, your generosity can go twice as far!

For 85 years, neighbours have been coming together to build a stronger, more caring Peterborough community. This year, there’s an extra reason to celebrate: eligible donations will be matched dollar for dollar!

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, new donations of $85 or more, as well as any increase to an existing gift, will be matched 100% through our 2026 Community Campaign.

This is the third and final year of this incredible matching gift, making it a special opportunity to double your impact and help support the network of 20 local agencies working to strengthen our community.

Whether you’re making your first gift or increasing your support, your generosity makes a difference.

85 years united. Double the impact. Stronger together.
