Agency Description: Provides quality community health and support services to the most vulnerable members of our communities to enable them to live independently. Highly skilled, experienced and trained professional nursing and non nursing staff care deeply for the people they provide service to. The Visiting Nurse Program provides nursing services within the home, downtown clinic or institutional setting (shift nursing). VON nurses are experienced in areas of wound care management, chemo therapy administration, intravenous infusion, palliative care management and many more generalized areas to support individuals with their health care needs. Foot care services can be provided in your home or in a clinic setting throughout Peterborough City and County. Wellness Services include influenza immunization; hepatitis immunization; blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol clinics; and any health care related educational sessions as needed. VON has created a clinic in the downtown core which will also serves the healthcare needs of the “at risk” homeless population. A Nurse Practitioner Clinic located in Keene provides Primary Health Care services to residents of Otonabee-South Monaghan. Adult Day Programs provides pleasant social experiences in a safe and stimulating environment for older adults in need of support to remain living at home. Provides a regular day of respite for caregivers. Locations in Peterborough, Lakefield, Havelock, Lindsay, Haliburton and Minden. VON now offers a Weekend Stay Program which provides a 48 hour weekend respite opportunity for up to 4 Day Program clients within the Peterborough Centre. In-Home Respite C.A.R.E. Program is designed to provide in-home respite assistance for persons with Alzheimer Disease and related dementia. Provides a program of care and stimulation for the individual and regular relief for caregivers. SMART Group Exercise Program are gentle exercises for those over 55 who wish to improve their health and well-being but feel unable to participate in other fitness programs. Exercises are carefully designed to maintain or improve strength and independence. Group programs offered at locations throughout Peterborough City and County including First Nations locations. SMART In-Home Exercise Program are ten simple, yet progressive exercises designed to maintain or improve functional fitness for those over 55 who are housebound or have limited access to the community. Trained volunteers come into your home and provide you with guidance and support as you exercise. Neighbours Helping Neighbours is a new educational opportunity provided through VON to increase the capacity of individual community members to provide informal respite for neighbours and friends. Abuse Prevention of Older Adults (Public Education & Awareness) volunteers trained in abuse prevention of older adults are available to provide education and awareness presentations to service groups, seniors’ organizations, and interested members of the public. Information on long term care services and assistance in accessing the right service or resource for individuals and families that most appropriately meets their needs (Resources/Service Co-ordination). Advice and Support to Organizations in organizing to respond to unmet community health and social needs. Currently VON provides support to organizations such as the Coalition for oral health/dental care. As a Charity, VON works in partnership with others to promote healthy individuals and communities.
