2009-2010 United Way Funding: $18,777

Agency Description: Provides support, prevention education, health promotion, and advocacy for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, and for people at risk of HIV transmission both in the community and in prison. Provides awareness of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and related issues to the broader community. Offers a harm reduction program, and social marketing campaigns; facilitation and programming of groups for people with HIV, hepatitis C, and youth. HIV Women's program to build community capacity to address women's risks for HIV transmission. Has meeting room and kitchen space available for use by groups with similar mandates.

United Way Funded Programs: Rainbow Youth Coalition: an HIV/AIDS prevention education program guided by community partners and provided through a bi-weekly social support group for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, transsexual, two-spirited, queer and questioning youth and their allies; in-service workshops and community events. Supports the development of gay-straight alliances in local high schools and Peterborough Pride events.This program is dedicated to raising awareness of addressing the risks associated with homophobia/heterosexism through training for service providers, youth and community members; works to create safer spaces for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, and Two-Spirited, Queer and Questioning Youth; plans events with and for LGBTTQQ youth in our community.

Number Who Benefit Annually: Over 100 people who are HIV infected and affected; over 300 people who access harm reduction materials, LGBTTQQ youth in our community, service providers and community members who attend trainings and events in the city and county.
